Pyridoxal phosphate (PLP, pyridoxal-5'-phosphate, P5P), the active form of vitamin B6, is a coenzyme in a variety of enzyme reactions. The Enzyme Commission has catalogued more than 140 activities that rely on pyridoxal-5-Phosphate, equivalent to ≈4% of all classified activities. The versatility of pyridoxal-5-Phosphate stems from its ability to covalently bind substrates and then act as an electrophilic catalyst, thereby stabilizing different types of carbon anion reaction intermediates.

Pyridoxal-5-Phosphate is the active form of vitamin B6 in the body, that is, a coenzyme for transaminases, decarboxylases, cysteine ​​desulfurase, etc., and plays a very important role in the metabolism of proteins or amino acids. Pyridoxal-5-Phosphate is a coenzyme for transaminases and decarboxylases in amino acid metabolism. It is currently widely used in microbial fermentation as a nutrient for microorganisms.
