Applications:

Calcium L-Threonate can be used as a nutritional fortifier and calcium supplement in pharmaceuticals, health products, and food additives.

Calcium L-Threonate is a degradation product of vitamin C, formed by the combination of L-threonic acid and calcium ions, and is an organic calcium compound. In the food additive field, Calcium L-Threonate is mainly used as a nutritional fortifier and calcium supplement, which can supplement the calcium content of food and improve its nutritional value.

The core function of Calcium L-Threonate is to maintain the normal function of the skeletal, nervous, and muscular systems through efficient calcium supplementation. Its advantages lie in its high water solubility, low gastrointestinal irritation, and good bioavailability, making it especially suitable for people who are intolerant or have poor absorption of traditional calcium supplements.

(I) Efficient Calcium Supplementation and Maintenance of Calcium Balance:

1: Used as a high-quality calcium source.

Calcium L-Threonate contains approximately 13% calcium (calculated as elemental calcium), which dissociates into calcium ions (Ca2+) and threonate ions after entering the body, directly participating in calcium metabolism.

Calcium L-Threonate provides building blocks for bones (which make up 99% of the body's calcium) and teeth, maintaining bone density and strength, and preventing osteoporosis and osteomalacia.

Calcium L-Threonate participates in physiological processes such as nerve impulse transmission, muscle contraction (e.g., cardiac and skeletal muscle), and blood clotting, maintaining normal cell function.

2: High bioavailability.

Calcium L-Threonate, as a ligand, binds to calcium ions to form a water-soluble complex. It does not require gastric acid for dissociation (unlike inorganic calcium such as calcium carbonate) and remains stable in neutral or alkaline environments, making it suitable for people with insufficient gastric acid secretion (such as the elderly and postoperative patients). Animal experiments show that its calcium absorption rate is higher than that of organic calcium such as calcium gluconate and calcium lactate, and even better than some inorganic calcium, reducing intestinal calcium deposition and excretion loss.

(II) Promoting bone and teeth health:

1: Preventing and improving calcium deficiency-related diseases.

Osteoporosis, especially suitable for postmenopausal women and the elderly (who experience accelerated calcium loss), by increasing bone mineral deposition and slowing down bone loss.

Rickets and osteomalacia: Calcium threonate can be used as a supplement to help children with abnormal bone development due to calcium deficiency (should be supplemented with vitamin D simultaneously).

Dental health: Strengthens tooth enamel and dentin, preventing tooth decay and loose teeth.

2: Mild and non-irritating to the gastrointestinal tract.

Compared to calcium carbonate (which requires stomach acid to dissolve and may produce CO2 causing bloating and constipation), calcium threonate dissociates gently in the intestines, causing less irritation to the gastric mucosa, making it suitable for long-term use by people with sensitive gastrointestinal tracts.

(III) Special physiological functions and clinical applications:

1: Nervous system support. Calcium ions participate in neurotransmitter release and synaptic transmission. Calcium L-Threonate may indirectly improve nerve cell function, especially alleviating abnormal nerve excitability caused by calcium deficiency (such as muscle spasms and tetany). 2: Antioxidant and Cell Protection Calcium L-Threonate, as a sugar acid derivative, has certain antioxidant activity, which may reduce the damage of oxidative stress to bone cells (such as osteoblasts and osteoclasts) and help maintain bone metabolism balance.
