3-Isocyanatopropyltriethoxysilane is a highly functional primary isocyanate silane that combines the functions of an isocyanate group and a triethoxy group. As a novel bifunctional agent that is readily hydrolyzed and crosslinked, its dual nature of isocyanate and triethoxysilane allows it to chemically bond inorganic materials (glass, sand, and fillers) and organic polymers (thermosetting and thermoplastic plastics).
In the presence of an alkoxy group, 3-Isocyanatopropyltriethoxysilane hydrolyzes to form a reactive silanol group. Due to the presence of the triethoxy group, Co-Formula isocyanate silane exhibits good adhesion to various inorganic substrates (such as metals and glass). Compared to other isocyanate silanes, 3-Isocyanatopropyltriethoxysilane hydrolyzes slowly, resulting in highly stable compositions.
3-Isocyanatopropyltriethoxysilane possesses high functionality and readily reacts with active hydrogen in organic polymers, serving as an equivalent to Momentive Silquest A-Link 25 or ShinEtsu KBM-9007. It strongly enhances the adhesion strength of resins to traditional and non-traditional substrates such as glass, metals, nylon, and plastics in the presence of moisture.
1. Polymer Modification and Synthesis
3-Isocyanatopropyltriethoxysilane is used for resin or polymer modification of silicone-modified polyurethane polymers (referred to as SPUR polymers) and silane-terminated polymers (MS polymers).
3-Isocyanatopropyltriethoxysilane is used as a modifier for alkoxysilyl crosslinked fluoropolymer fluids and for hydroxyl resins (acrylic resins, polyvinyl alcohol).
3-Isocyanatopropyltriethoxysilane is applied in polyethylene crosslinking and the synthesis of specialty coatings.
2. Adhesives, Sealants, and Coatings
3-Isocyanatopropyltriethoxysilane is used as a crosslinking agent in one-component, moisture-curing polyurethane adhesives, sealants, and coatings.
3-Isocyanatopropyltriethoxysilane is used as a bonding accelerator in one-component, moisture-curing, and two-component reactive polyurethane systems.
3-Isocyanatopropyltriethoxysilane acts as an adhesion promoter and coupling agent in the production of coatings and silicone sealants, especially suitable for one-component, moisture-curing polyurethane systems.
3-Isocyanatopropyltriethoxysilane acts as a bonding accelerator in silicone sealants and coatings, improving the adhesion between organic substrates and active hydrogen atoms.
3-Isocyanatopropyltriethoxysilane is used as an additive in polyurethane coatings, adhesives, and sealants, improving self-crosslinking, moisture curing, and excellent adhesion to inorganic materials.
3. Composite Materials and Surface Treatment
3-Isocyanatopropyltriethoxysilane is used as a surface modifier and crosslinking agent for organic and inorganic substrates to improve the chemical and physical properties of composite materials. 3-Isocyanatopropyltriethoxysilane is used for impregnating glass fibers and inorganic silica-containing fillers. As an excellent glass fiber treatment agent, it can improve the mechanical strength, electrical properties, and anti-aging properties of composite materials, and is widely used in the surface treatment of glass fiber reinforced plastics such as unsaturated resins, polyethylene, and polypropylene resins.
3-Isocyanatopropyltriethoxysilane is used for the surface treatment of inorganic silica fillers and for surface moisture-proofing of electronic components.
4. Rubber Processing
3-Isocyanatopropyltriethoxysilane acts as a crosslinking agent and adhesion promoter for RTVs, enhancing the adhesion between organic rubber and inorganic substrates and promoting the adhesion of silicone rubber.
The addition of 3-Isocyanatopropyltriethoxysilane to rubber improves the mechanical properties of vulcanizates (especially elongation and abrasion resistance), while maintaining the same resilience.
