8-Hydroxyquinoline (CAS#148-24-3) is an important heterocyclic compound and aromatic derivative. Its most core characteristic is its excellent chelating ability, forming stable five-membered ring complexes with various metal ions.

 

Main Usage:

1. Intermediate: It is a vital intermediate for the pharmaceutical, pesticide, and dye industries. It is a raw material for synthesizing halogenated quinoline antiamoebic drugs (like Clioquinol), Clorprenaline, and Praziquantel.

2. Analytical Chemistry: A classic precipitant, extractant, and complexometric titration indicator. It is used for qualitative, quantitative analysis, and separation of various metal ions (e.g., aluminum, bismuth, magnesium, copper, zinc, etc.).

3. Disinfection & Preservation: Its sulfate and copper salts are excellent preservatives, disinfectants, and mildew proofing agents. It possesses broad-spectrum antibacterial and antifungal activity and can be used as an RNA synthesis inhibitor.

4. Functional Materials: Its metal complexes, especially 8-Hydroxyquinoline Aluminum, are highly efficient electroluminescent materials used in Organic Light-Emitting Diodes (OLEDs).
