Oleic Acid, also known as cis-9-Octadecenoic Acid, is a monounsaturated fatty acid (C18H34O2) characterized by a single carbon-carbon double bond in its molecular structure. It is one of the most widespread unsaturated fatty acids found in nature, primarily present as a glyceride in animal and vegetable fats such as olive oil, peanut oil, and lard. Natural oleic acid exists exclusively in the cis-configuration, offering significant health benefits like lowering cardiovascular risk and improving skin health. The pure product is a colorless oily liquid that is insoluble in water but soluble in alcohol, ether, and other organic solvents.

Nutrition & Health, Essential Nutrient: The body's synthesis cannot meet its needs, requiring dietary intake (hence, consumption of high-oleic oils is healthy). Health Benefits: Lowers cholesterol and triglyceride levels, reducing cardiovascular disease risk; enhances brain function; maintains skin elasticity and softness; improves digestive health (relieving constipation); lowers diabetes risk.

Food Industry: Used as a food flavorant for formulating essences. Functions as a processing aid in the food industry (must be removed before the final product).

Chemical Industry: Organic Chemical Raw Material: Can be epoxidized to produce epoxy oleate (used as a plasticizer); oxidized to produce azelaic acid (a raw material for polyamide resins).

Daily & Textile: Soap Base: Its alkali metal salts are a major component of soap, providing good detergency (e.g., pure sodium oleate). Used to manufacture synthetic detergents, Emulsifier S-80, various cosmetic surfactants, and dispersants. Raw material for fabric waterproofing agents and various textile oil additives and finishing agents.

Lubricants & Preservatives: Paint Drier: Lead, manganese, and cobalt salts of oleic acid. Lubricating Oil Thickener: Aluminum salt of oleic acid. Metalworking & Lubricating Oils: Used in gear oil, rolling oil, hydraulic oil, and metal cutting oils. Fishing Net Preservative: Copper salt of oleic acid.

Others: Pesticide emulsifier, printing and dyeing auxiliary, industrial solvent, metal ore flotation agent, mold release agent. Raw material for carbon paper, ballpoint pen oil, and typewriter wax paper.
