Applications: Adamantane is a tricyclic aliphatic hydrocarbon belonging to the class of cage compounds. Its formula is C10H16, with the basic structure being the chair form of cyclohexane, forming a cyclic tetrahedron, which is a highly symmetrical and very stable cage compound. It is named because the spatial arrangement of its carbon atoms is similar to the basic unit of the diamond lattice. It naturally exists in petroleum, with a content of about four parts per million. Physical Functions: Very stable to light; good lubricity; extremely lipophilic; high thermal stability. Chemical Functions: Its derivatives are very easy to synthesize; used as an antiviral drug (Amantadine), which is significantly effective against paralysis agitans (tremor), and offers about 70% protection against A−II type Asian influenza virus; derivatives can combat Parkinson's disease.
Pharmaceuticals: Mainly used for the synthesis of special drugs such as anticancer and antitumor agents; used as a drug intermediate for synthesizing adamantane derivatives; derivatives (e.g., Amantadine) can prevent and treat A2 type influenza; used for producing pharmaceutical, pesticide, and veterinary drug intermediates.
Materials & Industry: Used for preparing advanced lubricants, raw materials for photosensitive materials, surfactants for photographic sensitive materials, specialty polymers (optical and photosensitive materials), epoxy resin curing agents, catalysts, agricultural and daily chemical products; can also be used as a solvent and cleaning agent. |
